With enormous amounts of plastic waste going to landfill each day, it's time we each took some responsibility. We understand that it's not always easy to reduce plastic use, especially when your fresh fruit and vegetables come packaged in it. That's why we've created our Packed by Nature range.

Packed by Nature was created by the family owned and operated company G. Ferlazzo & Co P/L. We have been established in the Melbourne Wholesale Market since 1989 and have long standing relationships with premium Australian growers. 

Packed by Nature aims to receive the freshest produce of premium quality from our growers Australia-wide, hand-select the best of the bunch, and package it conveniently for you (and for the earth) in biodegradable trays and compostable nets.

At Packed by Nature, our mission is to provide customers with convenience, freshness and enjoyable fresh fruit and vegetables, without costing the earth by using less plastic. We want to make an environmental impact on a large scale, by expanding our network of distributors and seeing Packed by Nature offered on shelves around Australia. We want to give each individual the option to choose eco-friendly packaging over plastics, without compromising on convenience or quality or produce.

We all know the hard work and dedication our Australian growers commit day in and out to ensure we all have enough to eat. Unfortunately, waste is a large contributing factor to higher prices and loss of income to the supply chain of produce across Australia, which heavily affects our beloved growers. There are many reasons why waste occurs and the solution to a large aspect of those is to package produce. Therefore, packaged produce is a much needed aspect for the industry. 

The Packed by Nature team have built their expertise of the fresh produce industry over generations. We are committed, hardworking, reliable and loyal to our parters. How do I order from the Packed by Nature range?

We supply independent wholesalers and fruit shops in the Melbourne Market. The best way to start seeing our range in your local fresh food store is to ask your current provider or local fruit shop to stock our products!

What does biodegradable and compostable refer to?

Biodegradable refers to the ability of materials to break down and return to nature avoiding costly landfill. Therefore a safer, cleaner and healthier environment. Our trays are made out of natural by-products such as corn-starch.

Compostable materials are much the same as biodegradable with their ability to breakdown and return to the earth. However compostable materials are one step ahead by providing nutrients once broken down. Which is what our environmentally friendly nets are! For more information see our 'about our packing'.

Why is the produce still wrapped in a plastic film? 

Unfortunately, there is no current heat shrinkable film solution that is biodegradable / compostable, otherwise you can be sure we would be using it! As a result, we have hand selected a film that is made from recycled plastics only which in turn makes the film also recyclable. We will continually push to source sustainable packaging solutions.
