Single-use packaging can be unavoidable when shopping, especially with fresh produce.
Packed by Nature allows you to have the convenience of single-use packaging, without the guilt. Our compostable nets and biodegradable tray bases won't contribute to landfill, it will simply compost and return to soil.
Our compostable nets are one of a kind offering an environmentally friendly solution to a common packaging method.
Compostable materials are similar to biodegradable materials, as they are both intended to return to the earth safely. However, compostable materials go one step further by providing the earth with nutrients once the material has completely broken down. These materials are added to compost piles, which are designated sites with specific conditions dependent on wind, sunlight, drainage and other factors.
Our biodegradable trays are special because they are able to break-down in the ground reducing the about of harsh plastic in landfill. Our trays are also unique because they are made from natural by-products such as corn-starch and do not only have a mixture of additives to help them biodegrade, setting them apart from the others.
A tray made from natural resources, why wouldn't you use them!
We are on the search for a compostable wrap solution to replace our current film.
Unfortunately, there is no current film solution that is compostable, otherwise you can be sure we would be using it! As a result, we have hand selected a film that is made from recycled plastics only which in turn makes the film also recyclable. We will continually push to source sustainable packaging solutions as our goal is to produce 100% home-compostable packaging.
The current battle is that the film used is heat shrunk at 170 degrees offering the tight, tamper proof protection we desire. The unfortunate problem is that the biodegrading / composting of material begins with high temperatures (reflecting those experienced in the ground). As a result, a biodegradable / compostable film cannot be used as it would begin to breakdown immediately before hitting the shelves.
